Kimpton, a leading mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) contractor, has announced that it will deliver the £2.0 million+ MEP package for the new Chester History Centre, as part of Chester’s City Gateway Masterplan in partnership with Kier. The project aims to transform public access to Chester’s archives, which span over 900 years of history, making them more accessible to a wider audience.
Scope of the MEP Contract
Kimpton’s contract covers a comprehensive range of MEP services, including:
- Electrical installations throughout the building.
- Heating and cooling systems powered by a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) air conditioning system.
- Above-ground drainage networks.
- Ventilation systems, critical for meeting BREEAM Excellent standards by maintaining consistent air turnover without creating draughts.
- Domestic plumbing and water supply for staff and customer facilities.
The centre is being built to BREEAM Excellent standards, ensuring net-zero carbon emissions from day one. The facility will feature solar PV panels on the roof to generate renewable energy, while high-spec windows with designed overhangs will reduce glare and maximise passive solar gain during winter. Enhanced insulation will contribute to the building’s low energy consumption and reduced CO2 emissions.
