United Infrastructure Ltd Acquires Simkiss Control Systems

United Infrastructure Ltd has announced the acquisition of Simkiss Group, strengthening its engineering capability across the energy, utilities, and infrastructure sectors.

The deal marks another step in United Infrastructure’s expansion strategy as the company continues to grow its technical offering and deliver integrated infrastructure solutions across the UK. The Warrington-based infrastructure provider delivers projects across water, energy, power, telecoms, and property services through its Utility Infrastructure and Social Infrastructure divisions. The business employs more than 2,200 people and works with a broad range of public- and private-sector clients on critical national infrastructure programmes.

Simkiss, headquartered in Rochdale and founded more than 25 years ago, specialises in the design and build of control systems, control panels, and switchgear. Its services also include installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance, primarily supporting utilities and infrastructure clients.

The acquisition is expected to enhance United Infrastructure’s technical engineering expertise, particularly in electrical control and automation systems, enabling the group to deliver more complex end-to-end solutions across energy and power projects.

Simkiss brings experience across multiple sectors, including energy, utilities, rail, and manufacturing, providing engineering design, contracting, and automation services such as PLC, HMI, and SCADA system integration.

Neil Armstrong, Chairman and CEO of United Infrastructure, described the acquisition as a “strong strategic fit,” highlighting how Simkiss’ engineering expertise will strengthen the group’s technical capability in critical infrastructure delivery.

Paul Simkiss, Group Chairman of Simkiss, said joining a larger infrastructure organisation will enable further investment in people, skills, and service delivery while maintaining the company’s reputation for technical excellence and long-standing client relationships.

The acquisition reflects continued consolidation in the UK infrastructure engineering market, as contractors invest in specialist control systems and automation expertise to support increasingly complex utility and energy projects.
