Briggs & Forrester Special Projects has been appointed as the principal contractor for the ‘A Stable Future’ initiative at Delapré Abbey, a historic 900-year-old site in Northampton. This project focuses on the restoration and transformation of the Grade II* listed 19th-century stable block into a multifunctional space dedicated to wellbeing, retail, and community events.
In collaboration with Currie & Brown and Buttress Architects, Briggs & Forrester will undertake comprehensive construction activities. These include the demolition of non-listed structures, refurbishment of existing buildings, new construction as necessary, and all associated external and Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) works. The project emphasises sustainability, incorporating ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, and rainwater harvesting systems to enhance environmental efficiency.
The ‘A Stable Future’ project has been made possible through a £3,096,798 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, aiming to preserve British heritage for future generations. Upon completion, the redevelopment is expected to create 42 full-time jobs and contribute approximately £1.57 million annually to the local economy.
